A-Kon: Dallas's Longest Running Anime and Pop Culture Convention

Whether you're into comic books, anime, video games, steampunk, sci-fi, or just about ANYTHING else, you'll find something to love about A-Kon in Dallas, Texas. Held in the Hilton Anatole Hotel, it is one of the largest and longest running conventions in Texas and has become a mash-up of pop culture fun with costume crafters (Cosplayers) dressed up as their favorite characters. Many spend hours making their outfits with skill that rivals even professional special effects artists!

Attendance is huge, crossing the 30,000 mark, so there's plenty of people to meet and mingle with. Also nearby are food options built into the hotel. Outside there are also food trucks with the tastiest junk food you can imagine! Gourmet nachos and french fries to refuel on before you get back to exploring. There are also several panels and entertainment options including anything from crafting advice to spooky stories, and also hilarious improv and comedy routines. Later on there is a professional cosplay contest, and late at night there are ballroom style dances and a rave for the more energetic! 

Over the course of 3 days you will have the most fun of your life and will be sad to go, but on your way out don't forget to stop by the vendor room and artist alley, which both contain vendors selling art, clothing, collectibles, and rare items from Japan! The wares here are limitless and you can find things you'd never see at a local store. It is worth setting aside a couple of hours just for browsing the vendors before they close. 

All in all, A-kon is a great convention to visit, and can entertain everyone from children to mature adults. If you haven't been before, start scheduling your trip now! A-kon is held on the first weekend of June every year, in Dallas, Texas.
